The Dublin City University

The Dublin City University

The Centre for Digital Video Processing (CDVP) at Dublin City University (DCU) is a cross-disciplinary research centre bringing together researchers in information retrieval, video and image analysis, and interface design. CDVP's mission is to research and develop techniques and tools for automatic analysis and indexing of digital information to enable content-based cooperations such as browsing, searching, alerting, filtering and summarisation. CDVP members are active in both participating in and co-ordinating activities in the EU Cross Language Evaluation Forum (CLEF) and US NIST Text Retrieval Conference (TREC) workshop series. Its research philosophy is to incorporate basic and theoretical research into demonstrators, including their flagship Fischlar digital video library systems, which is deployed as a working system with real users.
CDVP has considerable experience in commercialisation through patenting (6 patents issued) and licensing technology from other projects, and we also have experience of forming and running a start-up company. The CDVP currently consists of 50 researchers including 6 Faculty, 8 postdoctoral researchers, 30 research students and further research and support staff. CDVP has taken part in previous EU projects including the FP6 Integrated Project aceMedia, FP6 Network of Excellence KSpace and the FP5 SCHEMA Network of Excellence. CDVP members at Dublin City University have also been part of earlier EU projects including DICEMAN, EuroGatherer, Cost211, SIMPR and the Mira Working Group.
