Ordnance Survey
Ordnance Survey (OS), the British national mapping agency is a self-funding government agency with a world reputation as a leader in geographical information. Its core business is to maintain a highly detailed topographic database covering Great Britain. OS MasterMap is the detailed data generated by the database. It offers definitive, consistent and maintained referencing to more than 440 million man-made and natural landscape features in Britain. They include everything from forests, roads and rivers down to individual houses, garden plots, and even pillar boxes. In addition to this topographic mapping, entire new layers of information are being added progressively to OS MasterMap, such as aerial photographic images which precisely match the mapping; data providing the addresses of all properties; and integrated transport information. This is creating what is believed to be the most detailed and sophisticated geographical information resource for any country in the world.
Key roles in Tripod
OS will contribute substantial quantities of very detailed spatial data to the project as well as its experience in working with devices with GPS and a compass attached.
